WHO ARE WE?

The Catholic Youth Center, or the CYC, was established in 1959. Prior to then our building has served local youth since 1912, as the Father Matthew Temperance Association.  We are proud to be a part of this long-standing commitment to the youth of our area. Our mission is to advance the moral, intellectual, social, and recreational interests of all youth. No person either for the purpose of employment, volunteer participation or the provision of serves, shall be excluded from the Catholic Youth Center on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, sexual preference, age, disability or veteran’s status. The CYC continues to evaluate our programs and look to our membership base to determine the ever-changing needs of our youth. We currently offer the following programs. Our After School Program provides a safe environment and offers a variety of extra curricular interests, as well as homework club. In conjunction with our After School Program, we are creating a VIP (Volunteer Internship Program) to assist and mentor the youth in our After School, and possibly other programs within our CYC family. We feel that it is important to keep our older youth engaged in the CYC as they provide a base for our future families. Our extensive Basketball programs offer a variety of leagues and levels of competition. Our K-2 leagues, for both boys and girls, places its focus on instruction and skills training. Our 3-5 grade leagues, for both boys and girls, continues to nurture the skills learned in previous years and introduce rules and game play. Our 6- 8th grade leagues prepares our boys and girls for the skills they need should they chose to continue with this sport at the high school level.  Our Travel Basketball Program ranges from grades 3 –8, both genders, and offers a higher level of competition and require a greater commitment. We offer a Junior League program for boys in grades 9-12.  Our Cheerleading program is structured to follow the same format as our basketball programs with three divisions encompassing grades K-8.  Each division builds on the skill levels of the previous division. We also offer an All-Star Cheerleading program for those who are up for the higher level of competition and commitment. This All-Star group is also required to perform service hours in the community, giving back to the programs that support them.  Our Girls Volleyball program is open to students in grades 5-8. We offer Spring and Fall leagues.  We also offer a summer program for high school students who wish to keep their skills sharp to prepare for the fall high school season.  Camp St Michael houses our summer day camp programs and located off site on Cascade Street. This  9-week program offers a Little Peoples program geared toward campers age 3-6, a Day Camp program for campers ages 6-13 and a number of sports programs; basketball, cheerleading, soccer, dance and volleyball.  Our CYC Service Society id comprised of a group of civic, community service minded 8-12th grade students. Their focus is on giving back to their community through a variety of fund-raising and humanitarian efforts. They have performed a variety of functions from bottle drives, to clothing drives, to food baskets at holiday time, to making blankets for needy children in our Berkshire County area. What a great way to demonstrate the importance of helping those in need within our community.
